Amber Light vs Insects

Anyone who has ever been camping knows that insects tend to congregate around lights, due to a phenomenon known as positive phototaxis.

However, not all light colours are equally attractive to these flying nuisances; entomologists have found that longer-wavelength (amber to red) light is generally much less attractive to insects than shorter-wavelength (UV to green) light.

Dawnchaser’s amber LED chips are specified at a colour temperature of 1500K – roughly the same as the colour you’d get from your campfire. It’s not only pleasant to look at but sits at the far edge of insects’ perceptual range of 300nm to 650nm, and well outside their preferred range of 300-480nm, meaning that they are very effective in reducing insect attraction.

Greater than 180 degree beam spread

Our unique curved and ribbed lens design diffuses the light from the LED chips, creating an even beam that spreads more than 180 degrees.

Multiple Control Methods

One of the frustrations with many app-enabled products is that you can only control them with the app. It can be very inconvenient if your phone goes missing or the battery goes flat.

That’s why we’ve designed our Dawnchaser camp lights with a physical button as well, to give you another way to control them even if you can’t use your phone. You can not only turn the lights on and off with the button, but also cycle through the different colours as well. On the RGB lights you can cycle through 8 preset colours, and on the white & amber lights you can cycle through all 3 colours at 100% and 50% brightness.
